Club Events

The social calendar at the Winchester House Club features a number of events to suit all Members’ interests. Below are some of the main Club events and teams.

University Boat Race

The University Boat Race held traditionally in late March or early April, is one of the most popular dates in the Club’s diary. Members and invited guests are able to watch the highly competitive initial phase of the race as the start of the Championship Course is located just a few hundred yards away from the Club. The race has taken place between Putney and Mortlake every year since 1845.

Sporting Dinners

The Club hosts rugby and cricket sporting dinners each year. These dinners normally take place in March and October. Just a small number of the previous prestigious guest speakers have included Gavin Hastings, Will Greenwood, Richard Hill, Jeff Probyn, Sir Garfield Sobers, Alec Stewart, Mike Gatting and Andrew Strauss.

Burns Night

The Club holds a popular Burns Night evening for members, families and guests every January. The menu features the traditional Haggis, Neeps and Tatties along with other Scottish delicacies. The Club invites guest speakers to “address the haggis” and propose “the immortal toast”.

Club Sporting Teams

The Winchester House Golf Society, one of the oldest in England, meets five times a year and plays at top quality golf courses including Walton Heath and Woking.

The Wanderers Cricket Club formed in 1873 is administered by the Winchester House Club and has a strong team and extensive fixture list playing against local clubs and Cricketer Cup sides.

If you would like to join either the Golf Society or the Cricket Club then please contact the Club Secretary.
